Roving Gauntlets

These are a beloved style of gauntlets in my family. My sister and I have made countless pairs for their warmth and our love of working with raw rovings. There are so many colours, but also working with the natural colour of fibre from the animal it has been sheared from is wonderful too for the Roving Gauntlets.

The colours for this particular pair of Roving Gauntlets are dyed. At a small store in Saskatoon I found these three delightful shades. The pink used is a one of a kind dye lot. So precious is the colour fading from a light creamy white to a pastel pink. Off setting the pink are two army green shades that blend the pattern together smoothly. Here on Instagram I show them off https://www.instagram.com/p/CjEqSVOAe0F/

All About The Hook

To work with these raw rovings using this pattern, it is best to use a very sharp hook for crochet. The hook I use I bought from this store in Saskatoon, but sadly the owner has retired. Do not be deterred. A Furls crochet hook https://www.amazon.ca/Furls-Streamline-Swirl-Crochet-10-0mm/dp/B09L5LBZWX/ref=sr_1_3?hvadid=267113177652&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9001252&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=2249497907762412333&hvtargid=kwd-303531013128&hydadcr=20578_9245705&keywords=furls%2Bcrochet%2Bhooks&qid=1679863930&sr=8-3&th=1 as seen in this link would be perfect. The Furls is sharp, and has a bulbous base to help cut through the stitches.

For the Rovings Gauntlets the stitches do not look like a regular Single Crochet Stitch. The technique is to Slip Stitch through Front Loop and pull through Loop on Hook. One continuous stitch. This style of slipping stitches creates a thick barrier when using rovings. The thickness helps stop wind from penetrating the gauntlets or gloves.

Rovings Gauntlets are naturally very thick and warm and using this style of crochet is very tight. Be sure when creating patterns using this technique to check your tension throughout the whole pattern. It is very easy to over do the tension. Also, blocking a project like this would be handy to do as well.

Rovings Gauntlet Pattern is not a specifically written pattern as you would use compared to normal patterns with a specific amount of stitches. Rovings Gauntlets and working with rovings is a feeling. For a more formal version of the pattern please follow this link to Ribblr for the paid pattern: https://ribblr.com/myshop?pat_end=1
